Start today with a grateful heart
Happy July, everyone!
I hope you are well and keeping safe. This is my first blog post for Bloomin’ Positive and I’m so excited to be posting this and starting this journey with you all.
I felt a mini introduction would be a good start. My name is Em, I’m twenty five years old, I’m obsessed with wearing leggings and I have a sweet tooth (which is why leggings are a blessing!) I wanted to start this blog because I feel lockdown has been a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with myself and to figure out how to better look after myself mentally and physically, given that I have been furloughed and have an additional 37.5 hours every week to use wisely. I wanted to share with you the things that I have learnt, and continue to learn, that are helping me to become mentally stronger, calmer and more positive in my day to day living. My posts will be mostly lifestyle and ‘self help’ based, but I’m also making sustainable and eco friendly changes which I feel could be helpful for others too, sometimes we need to just take little steps to create a bigger change. So, does anyone fancy a challenge? I do!
Throughout lockdown I started to keep a journal, it’s only a little something right now, I try to complete it everyday but hope to make it more suited to me over time and a daily habit (without fail!) My prompts include reflecting on how I am feeling at the time, three top priorities for the day, any worries (so I can write them down and leave them there), what I’m looking forward to and advice for myself. The biggest space on the page is for my Gratitude. I list three things everyday that I am grateful for, and here is why. Not only have a read a book which has changed my perspective (which I am hoping to review at a later date), but I have also read so much about the benefits of a gratitude journal. The main points that I have discovered are:
- Increases mental strength
- Improves self esteem
- Enhances empathy and reduces aggression
- Improvement in psychological health
- Improvement in physical health
- Improvement in sleep
I mean if anything, it’s probably worth taking five minutes out of your day to start a gratitude journal, especially if it has such great benefits on your health, right?!
So, here is the challenge. As Bloomin’ Positive is new and I’d like to get to know any of you who feel it could benefit your life, I am going to do the gratitude challenge starting today! If you want to join me then please do, and feel free to tag me, I’d love to see all the things that you are grateful for. I believe it’s a fantastic way to build a foundation for this positive community with the addition of many health benefits. It could also be a way to create a new and positive habit in your lifestyle.
